Man City offer could give Arne Slot biggest Liverpool boost yet as transfer worry eased

The appointment of a new head coach inevitably leads to a period of uncertainty for a football club’s squad. Players will be wondering if the new boss will have them in their plans.
A lot of the Liverpool roster has yet to meet Arne Slot . Fourteen Reds players have been taking part in the Copa America and Euro 2024 , meaning they have yet to begin pre-season training. Some may return to the club as international champions and will be confident of staying at the club, but it won’t be straight forward for everyone.
According to HITC , Al-Nassr is looking to reunite its center-back Aymeric Laporte with his former teammate Ederson. It has reported that City has received a bid of $32.3m (£25m/€29.6m) from the Saudi side for its Brazilian goalkeeper. The 30-year-old shot stopper joined the Cityzens in 2017 and is under contract until 2026.
HITC state that Ederson would become the top paid player in his position in the world if the move was to go through, with his salary said to be rising to around $647k (£500k/€593k) a week. And his departure could be on the cards, with HITC understanding that: “Ederson has made it clear to Manchester City that he is ready to move away from the Etihad Stadium while following in the footsteps of Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte.”
If Ederson were to leave, City needn’t necessarily purchase a replacement immediately. Stefan Ortega deputised well at times last season, notably in draws at Anfield and against Arsenal , results which began turning the Premier League title race in City’s favor.
Even so, losing a goalkeeper who has been a champion of England six times while also winning the Treble and Club World Cup would inevitably cause at least a little disruption for Pep Guiardiola’s side. Al Nassr switching from Alisson to Ederson could have a double benefit for Slot in his first campaign at Liverpool.
Liverpool.com says: While we feel Ederson is overrated as a shot stopper and relied upon more for his excellent passing ability, it would be a big ask for Ortega to fill Ederson’s boots in 2024/25. Performing well in occasional big games is one thing, but excellence week after week is hard to deliver. But as long as Alisson stays at Liverpool, who cares what happens with goalkeepers anywhere else?
