Shannen Doherty refused to slow down.

Late last year, the actress launched a memoir-style podcast, Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty , a vehicle which she used to inspire others. In an interview about it with People , she remained defiant.

“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” she said. “I’m just not — I’m not done.”

Yesterday, her journey came to an end, and her friends in Hollywood took to social media to remember the spirit she showed.

Here are some of the early reactions, which include tributes from Doherty’s Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Gabrielle Carteris, and Carol Potter.

Priestley called Doherty “a force of nature”; for Green she was “my sister” who “loved me through everything.”

Green posted his memories via Instagram stories.

“Shan. My sister … you loved me through everything,” Brian Austin Green, who portrayed David Silver, wrote. “You were a big part of my understanding of love. I’ll miss you more than I know how to process right now. Thank you for the gift of you.” He posted some broken heart emojis at the end.

Carteris evoked fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry, who died in 2019. “May you RIP Shannon. I know Luke is there with open arms to love you,” she wrote on Instagram.

Garth referenced an ongoing narrative involving her and Doherty.

“We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration,” Garth wrote on Instagram. “She was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous.”

Doherty’s Charmed co-star Alyssa Milano also referred to the duo’s complicated history in a statement , calling her “a talented actress, beloved by many,” .with fellow Charmed alums Rose McGowan, Brian Krause and Ted King posting tributes on social media .

Olivia Munn bonded with Doherty as they both battled cancer. “Cancer is really f*cking scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace,” Munn wrote on Instagram.

Added Potter, “Throughout, she stayed true to herself and gave us an example of courage and perseverance in facing her own death.”

Fox Entertainment issued its own statement on Doherty, who helped fuel its Beverly Hills, 90210 hit.

“All of us at Fox mourn the loss of our friend, Shannen Doherty, and grieve alongside her family, friends and fans. We are grateful for Shannen’s undeniable talent and light, especially through her unforgettable, groundbreaking role in Beverly Hills, 90210 , the iconic series that cemented her place among television royalty and helped define the bold, provocative identity Fox became known for. While Shannen was far too young to leave us, over her decades-long career, she built a legacy that will be remembered and celebrated forever.”

Filmmaker Kevin Ssmith, who directed Doherty in his 1995 comedy Mallrats , paid an homage to Doherty.

“Long before any other pop culture figure ‘broke the internet’ [Doherty] single-handedly shattered it in the early ’90s,” Smith wrote on Instagram . “This is an incredible accomplishment considering the internet as we know it didn’t even exist yet.”

Director Malcolm Ingram was cited for enlisting Doherty for Mallrats . “When I told him my next flick was essentially ‘ Clerks in a mall,’ Malcolm insisted, ‘Then you gotta cast Doherty! She’s an American icon!’ That she was, and so much more.

“Shannen was a true talent and she became a good friend, but lest anyone forget, she was the only reason Mallrats got greenlit in 1995. That’s because Shannen was one of the most famous people on the planet — and the fact that she picked Mallrats as her first follow-up to 90210 *made* that movie happen.”

We’ll add more as they appear.
