NASCAR team makes big personnel change hours before race at Pocono

It appears that Legacy Motor Club is ready to make some changes.

On Sunday, the team reportedly parted ways with competition director Joey Cohen, with longtime NASCAR crew chief and executive Bobby Kennedy being promoted to GM.

The change comes in the middle of a sluggish season for the team, which had high expectations coming into the season. With a veteran in Erik Jones and a rejuvenated John Hunter Nemechek making up its lineup for 2024, it seemed the team was destined for a solid season.

Alas, things have not gone as planned for Legacy in 2024, as the team's two entries sit 28th and 30th in points, respectively.

With the team only garnering five top-10 finishes in 38 total starts, it's clear that it isn't where it wants to be. It'll take a miraculous win over the next six races for either Jones or Nemechek to make the 2024 playoffs, but the clear lack of speed should be the bigger issue at hand.

If Legacy wants to properly represent the name of its team and the legends involved — Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Richard Petty are all tied to the organization — it needs to quickly find a solution for its poor performance.

If it doesn't, 2025 could see the team sink to its lowest point yet.

The team's next race is Sunday afternoon at Pocono. The Great American Getaway 400 will go green shortly after 2:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on USA Network, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR.

Jones will start 23rd for Sunday's race, with Nemechek starting 32nd.
