Matthew Judon issued a strong response on social media on Saturday, following a report that he wouldn’t play under his current contract with the New England Patriots.

The four-time Pro Bowler is entering the final year of his deal, and the two sides have yet to agree on an extension.

Judon has given every indication publicly that he intends to play out his deal with no fuss. However, per the Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard, the veteran linebacker is playing nice to the public, but people behind the scenes are saying he is “not going to play under his current contract.”

“Before yall get on my ass I didn’t say that. At all don’t let them make me the villain,” Judon posted on social media.

The Patriots would obviously love to sign Judon to an extension, but it’s going to have to be a deal that makes sense to both parties.

When healthy, Judon has proven to be one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL. He hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down as a playmaker on the field.

But Father Time is undefeated, and player declines are often sudden. Judon turns 32 years old in August, and he’s coming off a season-ending biceps injury. The Patriots are a rebuilding team investing in younger talent in a desperate attempt to get things back on track after a 4-13 finish in 2023.

Judon might not need to say anything. The writing might already be on the wall for his time in New England.
