For the 11th consecutive year, Louisiana baseball has an MLB Draft pick. Shortstop Kyle DeBarge was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the 33rd overall pick in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday.

DeBarge will head to Minnesota as one of the most decorated players in recent program history. The junior shortstop hit .355 this season while setting single-season program records with 21 home runs and 179 total bases.

For his efforts in 2024, DeBarge was not only named the Sun Belt Player of the Year — just the third player in program history to do so, and the first since Blake Trahan in 2015 — he was also named a consensus All-American, just the second Ragin' Cajun to receive that honor, and the first since Jace Conrad in 2015.

DeBarge has until July 25th to sign with the Twins. If they can't come to an agreement, he could return to UL next season.
