Noble Environmental and Somerset County Recycling are sponsoring a household hazardous waste and electronics collection event starting at 9 a.m. July 20 at 6022 Glades Pike Somerset, in the Penn Highlands College parking lot.

Do you have old paint, household chemicals, pool chemicals, insecticides, or other household chemicals, or any type of battery or lightbulb, or old electronic device you would like to clear from your home? Don’t throw them in the trash. Chemicals, batteries, lightbulbs and electronics have numerous negative impacts on the environment and need to be disposed of properly, which does involve recycling.

"Refuse haulers are increasingly refusing to take many of these hazardous items in curbside trash collection due to the long-standing negative impact on the environment," said Cathie Beal, Parks and Trails director/recycling coordinator, in an email. "When these toxins are properly mitigated through Specialty Recyclers, there is less waste for the landfill and less air, water and soil pollution, which is better for all of us."

To register and learn more about this event, go to www.nobleenviro.com, or call 412-567-6566.

"Proper disposal of household hazardous waste involves taking these items to Specialty Recyclers, who safely transport, and mitigate the chemicals to reduce toxins," Beals said. "These Specialty Recyclers reclaim, reduce, reuse, regenerate and recycle all that is possible. By participating in this event, you will help keep toxins out of the landfill while safely decluttering your home."
