17-year-old found dead in Lewiston road

A 17-year-old was found dead on a Lewiston road on Sunday night.

Police found Sahal Murdi of Lewiston dead about 10:30 p.m. after officers came to Rideout Avenue to investigate a reported shooting, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Witnesses told officers that a silver Mercedes and a black Dodge Challenger with temporary Maine plates fled the scene. Moss said Monday morning that the driver of the Mercedes has been identified and is cooperating with investigators.

Murdi’s body was taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy will confirm his cause and manner of death, Moss said.

The death remains under investigation.
