KBI warns public about new scam targeting Kansas residents

KANSAS (KOAM) -- The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is warning people about a new scam.

According to the KBI Facebook page , scammers are calling people throughout the state claiming they work for the KBI.

KBI is reminding people what to watch out for:

    • The KBI might call you if you were party or witness to a case to arrange an interview, but you will NOT receive an unexpected call from us requesting your social security number, credit card number, date of birth, or other personal information.
    • If you are concerned about the legitimacy of any call you receive from us, please call our headquarters office at 785-296-8200 to inquire. We will be happy you're being cautious!
    • Never provide personal information or transfer funds over the phone unless YOU initiated the contact to a known business or service.
    • Anytime a caller has a sense of urgency, or is acting suspicious, please hang up. Then look up the published number for the business or service, and call that number to verify the authenticity of the call you received.
