MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — The National Weather Service is urging residents to prepare for flooding after projections show the Rock River cresting at 10 feet on Wednesday.

“While the risk to structures remains low at this time, we encourage those in potential flood zones to prepare accordingly,” authorities said Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several rivers in Winnebago County and says minor or moderate flooding may occur.

The following sandbag stations have been established to assist residents:

    • Village of New Milford, Illinois Fire Station
    2177 Will James Road
    Rockford, Illinois 61109

    • Village of Roscoe Public Works Department
    5402 Swanson Road
    Roscoe, Illinois 61073

    • Village of Machesney Park, Illinois Town Center
    8702 N. 2nd Street
    Machesney Park, Illinois 61115

Monday night, forecasts see a 3rd opportunity for a strong complex of thunderstorms to pass through northern Illinois, bringing with it additional flash flooding concerns.
