    55 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 55 for New England

    The New England Patriots will open their 2024 campaign against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Sunday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. ET, which is now 55 days away.

    Until the opening kickoff of the season for the Patriots, we'll be counting down each day by looking back at those who have worn each specific jersey number.

    Since 1960, 21 players have worn No. 55 in New England, and with 55 days until their first game of the year, here's a look at everyone who's worn the number for the team:

    LB Josh Uche: 2021-Present

    • Appeared in 51 games for New England over his first four seasons, recording 63 tackles (17 for a loss), 31 quarterback hits, 18.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery
    • Re-signed this offseason to be a starting/rotational edge rusher

    LB John Simon: 2018-20

    • Appeared in 43 games for New England over three seasons, recording 114 tackles (nine for a loss), 14 quarterback hits, eight sacks, seven passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble
    • Won Super Bowl 53
    • Also played for the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans

    LB Eric Lee: 2017

    • Appeared in six games for New England in his lone season with the team, recording 19 tackles (three for a loss), five quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, two passes defensed and an interception
    • Also played for the Detroit Lions

    LB Cassius Marsh: 2017

    • Appeared in nine games for New England in his lone season with the team, recording two quarterback hits and one sack
    • Also played for the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers

    LB Jonathan Freeny: 2015-16

    • Appeared in 19 games for New England over three seasons, recording 60 tackles (two for a loss), two quarterback its, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one sack and one pass defensed
    • Won Super Bowl 51
    • Also played for the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints

    LB Akeem Ayers: 2014

    • Appeared in nine games for New England in his lone season with the team, recording five quarterback hits, four sacks, one pass defensed and an interception
    • Won Super Bowl 49
    • Also played for the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants and St. Louis Rams

    LB Deonte Skinner: 2014

    • Appeared in seven games for New England in his lone season with the team, recording 16 tackles (one for a loss) and one sack
    • Won Super Bowl 49
    • Also played for the New York Giants

    LB Brandon Spikes: 2010-13

    • Appeared in 51 games for New England over four seasons, recording 286 tackles (14 for a loss), 12 passes defensed, six quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, two interceptions, one fumble recovered and a sack
    • Also played for the Buffalo Bills

    LB Junior Seau: 2006-09

    • Appeared in 38 games for New England over four seasons, recording 178 tackles (14 for a loss), 11 quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, three interceptions and one fumble recovery
    • Also played for the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins
    • Made 12 Pro Bowls, six All-Pro teams and was inducted into the Hall of Fame

    LB Derrick Burgess: 2009

    • Appeared in 16 games for New England in his lone season with the team, recording 34 tackles (four for a loss), 12 quarterback hits, five sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery
    • Also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders
    • Made two Pro Bowls

    LB Willie McGinest: 1994-2005

    • Appeared in three games for New England as a replacement player during the player strike

    LB Don Blackmon: 1981-87

    • Appeared in 89 games for New England over seven seasons, recording 29.5 sacks, six fumbles recovered and five interceptions

    LB Ray Costict: 1977-79

    • Appeared in 46 games for New England over three seasons, recording four fumble recoveries, three sacks and an interception

    LB Kevin Reilly: 1975

    • Appeared in four games for New England in his lone season with the team, recording an interception
    • Also played for the Philadelphia Eagles

    LB Rodrigo Barnes: 1975

    • Appeared in six games for New England over two seasons, recording a fumble recovery
    • Also played for the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders
    • Won Super Bowl 11

    LB Will Foster: 1973-74

    • Appeared in 21 games for New England over two seasons, recording two fumble recoveries

    LB Ralph Cindrich: 1972

    • Appeared in 12 games for New England in his lone season with the team

    LB J.R. Williamson: 1968-70

    • Appeared in 39 games for Boston over three seasons, recording two fumble recoveries and an interception
    • Also played for the Oakland Raiders
    • Won the 1967 AFL Championship

    LB Lonnie Farmer: 1964-66

    • Appeared in 31 games for Boston over three seasons, recording two sacks and an interception.
