Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark was called for a controversial technical foul during her team's 81-74 win against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday (July 14).

Clark, 22, was pushing the ball up the court in the third quarter of Sunday's game when Lynx forward Cecilia Zandalasini grabbing her right arm in an effort to slow her down. The No. 1 overall pick reacted with a short swipe, which connected with Zandalasini's face, resulting in a personal foul being called on Zandalasini and a technical foul on Clark after officials reviewed the play.

Clark has been called for four technical fouls during her rookie season and would face a one-game suspension if she reaches seven in adherence with WNBA rules.

The Fever improved to 11-14, having won four of their last six games, following a 2-10 start to the 2024 WNBA season. Clark is currently averaging 16.8 points, 7.8 assists and 5.8 rebounds through the first 25 games of her pro career.

The former University of Iowa standout was selected as an All-Star and an alternate for USA Basketball's 2024 Paris Olympics team . Clark is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA basketball history and her collegiate dominance has led to a significant spike in the popularity of women's basketball.
