Adidas Releases Its Lightest Rugby Boot to Date, the Kakari RS

The Adidas Ultraboost 5 Sneaker Gets the Biggest Redesign Since the Franchise Began in 2015

Adidas has announced the release of its newest and lightest rugby boot, known as the Kakari RS. Offered in three silhouettes at various prices, the shoe is available beginning on Monday.

Following the release of the Adizero RS15 , the brand’s latest rugby boot is a lightweight shoe designed with the front five forwards in mind. The company consulted a range of rugby players to ascertain what the modern forward requires of a boot. Realizing the forward increasingly contributes to open play, Adidas crafted the new shoe “with a focus on maintaining vital stability and durability but combined with a lightweight frame to allow for speed of movement in all directions.”

Prominent rugby players and Adidas partners, including Scott Barrett, Tadhg Furlong, Eben Etzebeth and Kyle Sinckler, will wear the Kakari RS. The boot comes in two colorways: light blue with gold accents and black and silver.

The Kakari RS features a one-piece construction for the soleplate as well as an eight-stud tooling system designed for forwards. The lightweight frame was crafted with the removal of unnecessary weight, allowing the shoe to weigh in at just 368 grams, or just under 13 ounces. The Kakari RS and the Adizero RS15 both feature a microfiber-based synthetic leather to adapt to the foot and offer heel support. Kakari’s upper includes embroidered stitching to provide additional midfoot support as well as the reinstatement of standard lacing to support the foot through forward-specific motions.

Ben Herath, Adidas vice president of design and specialist sports, made a statement on the new release: “Rugby is evolving faster than ever, and with this, so is the Adidas rugby boot portfolio. We listened to the feedback and understood what the modern forward needs in the form of footwear and have incorporated new and improved technologies geared towards a quicker-paced game – without compromising on the stability required for certain aspects of a forward’s game.”

Herath continued, “The introduction of Adizero RS15 dawned a new age for Adidas, and the new Kakari RS brings both silhouettes together to deliver a boot room that supports the needs of rugby players of all abilities across all positions.”

Adidas has delved into the world of Rugby several times before, having recently collaborated with New Zealand Rugby to create a new design for their jerseys.
