Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.

During Monday's edition of the WFAN morning show, former New York Jets quarterback and current NFL analyst Boomer Esiason suggested that the club may be closer to acquiring star Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams than some realize.

"I’m hearing — that this is going to happen, if it does happen — somewhere in late August, early September," Esiason said about the Jets possibly trading for Adams, as shared by Bradley Locker of the New York Post. "I’m not sure about why it would take that long."

Jets starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers raised eyebrows when he recently said that he "can't wait to play with [Adams] again." The two were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 through the 2021 season, but Adams hinted last week that he isn't going anywhere ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Adams agreed to a five-year, $141.25M contract to join the Raiders via a trade from Green Bay in March 2022.

As for Esiason, he has ties to the Jets and a history of revealing news about the team. His comments on Monday indicated that he wasn't merely spitballing about something that could happen.

"Davante is never going to come out publicly and say, 'I want to leave the Raiders,'" Esiason added. "But you do hear in this wide receiver program ['Receiver' on Netflix], where he does this, 'I got to get out of here before I get killed.' He says that. That leads the viewer to believe that he wants out of Vegas. But I don’t see him saying that publicly. I don’t see him going to the media and saying, 'Get me out of here.' I can see him saying to his agent, much like he did to Green Bay, the same type of thing."

While the Raiders plan to hold a quarterback competition between 2023 fourth-round draft pick Aidan O'Connell and journeyman Gardner Minshew this summer, many expect the Jets to compete for more than a playoff spot with Rodgers recovered from the torn Achilles he suffered last September.

Gang Green undeniably is in a win-now mode with Rodgers set to turn 41 years old in December, but that doesn't mean the Raiders will make Adams available at any price before Week 1.
