BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Houchin Community Blood Bank is offering Summer-Olympic-themed shirts for successful blood donors through July 20.

Houchin officials say the front of the shirt will read “Proud Blood Donor” and the back will say “Saving lives, it’s in my blood.”

The promotion is aimed at motivating new and current donors to contribute to the community.

Shane Hubbard Marketing and Communications Manager at Houchin says summer is the toughest season for Kern’s blood supply.

Hubbard said in a news release:

The current state of Kern County’s blood supply is very low, and we strongly encourage the community to donate whenever they are eligible. Summer is the toughest season for Kern County’s blood supply. Local patients fighting cancer and needing routine transfusions don’t stop in the summer, but donations drop significantly for a variety of reasons
