    One girl dead, another fighting for life after truck hits horse-drawn buggy in Cumberland

    CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One girl is dead and another is in critical condition following a Sunday evening crash in Cumberland County involving a horse-drawn buggy.

    Just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, troopers with Virginia State Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the 2700 block of Cumberland Road.

    The crash involved a Ford F250 pickup truck and a horse-drawn buggy. According to state police, both vehicles were moving south on Cumberland Road when the truck hit the buggy from behind.

    All seven people in the buggy were injured in the crash. One of them, a juvenile girl whose age could not be shared by state police at this time, died at the scene. Another girl whose age was also not shared remains in critical condition.

    The remaining five had injuries not considered life-threatening. According to state police, the driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.

    “Charges are pending following consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney,” state police said.

    The crash remains under investigation. No other information is available at this time.
