    Shooting in Portales leaves one man dead

    ROOSEVELT COUNTY, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) – Officials with the Portales Police Department released details on an alleged shooting that left one man dead on Monday.

    According to officials, the Portales Police Department responded to the area of West Kaywood and North Avenue B at approximately 3:24 a.m. after receiving a call in that area. Officials stated that officers located 51-year-old Benigno Castillo upon arrival who appeared to have suffered injuries from a firearm.

    Officials noted that Castillo was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

    The Portales Police Department stated that this incident is currently being investigated by the police department along with the 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit. Officials stated that anyone with any information is asked to contact the Portales Police Department at 575-356-4404.
