Former president Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance to be his vice presidential running mate, Trump announced Monday.

After surviving an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social Monday, the first day of the 2024 Republican National Convention , to formally announce his pick.

The announcement ended months-long speculation, and the long list of other VP contenders could be poised to fill Trump's cabinet jobs if he wins a second term.

In the meantime, Vance will join Trump on the campaign to beat President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. So when will we see Vance and Harris face off? Here is what we know:

    When is the VP debate?

The campaigns have not yet agreed on a debate host or date.

The Biden campaign accepted an invitation from CBS News for a vice presidential debate for either July 23 or Aug. 13.

The Trump campaign accepted an invitation for a vice presidential debate hosted by Fox News , on a "Date to be determined," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Typically, there is only one vice presidential debate during a campaign season. However, the Commission on Presidential Debates officially stepped down from hosting all debates this year for the first time since 1988.

Trump and Biden agreed to a second presidential debate hosted by ABC News, which is scheduled for Sept. 10.
