SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Lackawanna County Official is off the job for comments about the attempted assassination of former President Trump.

The county employee of more than 20 years has been suspended without pay.

The Lackawanna County Commissioners suspended Community Relations Manager Rick Notari for an alleged comment made online following the assassination attempt that wounded the former president killed a bystander and hurt two others.

The county has described it as an “Inappropriate remark”.

This Lackawanna County Employee has been suspended without pay over an “Inappropriate” social media post made about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

County Community Relations Manager Rick Notari made the post Saturday night on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

It said “It’s a shame the guy missed.”

The post was a reply to a post a sports commentator made about the shooting. It has since been deleted.

28/22 News spoke to county commissioners earlier Monday regarding the suspension.

“He’s a 20 year employee, he’s now suspended indefinitely I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next few days we’ll have to see. But it’s unfortunate and shouldn’t happen,” stated Chris Chermak (R), Lackawanna County Commissioner.

“I think we need to turn the temperature down, have respectful discourse. If you agree with one party or don’t agree with another party that’s fine, that’s what democracy is about. There’s no need for violence and there’s no need for hatefulness,” voiced Bill Gaughan (D), Lackawanna County Commissioner.

Commissioners say political violence should be condemned and they wished Trump a full recovery.

According to the Old Forge Borough website, Notari also serves on borough council.

We have reached out to the borough for comment but have not heard back.

28/22 News has reached out to Notari for comment we have not heard back.

Again, the county has suspended him without pay indefinitely.
