Elly De La Cruz Shares Heartfelt Moment With Yankees Legend

22-year-old phenom Elly De La Cruz has arrived in Texas for the upcoming All-Star game and had the opportunity to sit down with the MLB on FOX crew Monday and share a heartfelt moment with Yankees legend Derek Jeter .

De La Cruz said that he was a huge fan of Jeter and that he was his childhood idol growing up, loving the game of baseball. He had the chance to speak with Jeter on the FOX set and expressed that.

“I grew up as a Jeter fan. He was my favorite player growing up. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” De La Cruz said.

Derek Jeter was the definition of an athlete who respected the game and carried himself with class on and off the field. An ideal role model for so many young baseball players, Cincinnati Reds shortstop being one of many.

Elly De La Cruz is a first-time all-star who currently leads the league in stolen bases with 46. He also has 17 home runs, 43 RBI, and is slashing. 256/.346/.483 with an .830 OPS.

It was a full-circle moment for the first-time all-star from the Dominican Republic who will appear in the game at some point playing shortstop, while Jeter was a long-time all-star for the Yankees at shortstop. Now they finally get to meet, and if I had to guess, it won't be the last time they see each other at this event.
