New York Giants Could Cut Former 1,000-Yard Wide Receiver

The New York Giants signed wide receiver Allen Robinson to bolster their aerial attack this offseason, but the veteran may not even make it out of camp.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has listed Robinson among three Giants players who could be cut before the regular season, noting that New York can save $1.1 million by releasing him.

Knox also mentions that the Giants’ wide receiver room has gotten pretty crowded, especially with incoming rookie wide out Malik Nabers moving everyone else down on the depth chart.

You have to figure that Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt will be Big Blue’s top four receivers heading into 2024, with Isaiah Hodgins likely occupying the fifth spot.

That doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for Robinson, who may have to battle it out with Isaiah McKenzie—who Giants head coach Brian Daboll had as a coordinator in Buffalo—for the final receiver slot.

Robinson does have three 1,000-yard campaigns under his belt, although he last achieved the feat with the Chicago Bears in 2020. As a matter of fact, since then, the 30-year-old has yet to even log 500 yards in a single season, topping out at 410 yards in 2021.

Last year, Robinson caught 34 passes for 280 yards as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Can the Giants’ offense finally show signs of life in 2024?

The Giants’ offense was absolutely brutal in 2023, ranking 29th in the NFL in yardage and 30th in scoring. And that was with running back Saquon Barkley on the roster.

Now, Barkley is playing for the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles, and New York is left hoping that quarterback Daniel Jones will rediscover his 2022 form.

Jones dealt with a myriad of injury issues last season, playing in just six games before ultimately bowing out with a torn ACL. When he was on the field, he was subpar, throwing for two touchdowns and six interceptions.

In Jones’ defense, he didn’t exactly have anyone to throw to in 2023, and he has never had a legitimate No. 1 receiver at his disposal since entering the league in 2019.

Now, he appears to have that in Nabers, and with the Giants working to improve their offensive line this offseason, it should be interesting to see if Jones can have a bounceback campaign.
