ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Work on the new mural at the Bernalillo County headquarters is underway. Artist Ivan Toth Depeña and his team are currently installing “Windforms” on the southwest side of Alvarado Square.

The project has a $200,000 budget and is funded through the county’s Art in Public Places Ordinance. “this is part of that project, the money that was voter-approved, geobonds for Alvarado Square; our county headquarters. That was put in for this project and so we’re excited it’s coming together,” says Bernco Public Art Project Coordinator Kent Swanson.

The county’s arts board and the commission selected his abstract design out of more than 100 proposals. The county says it invokes the vibrant colors of Albuquerque’s skies, the Rio Grande, the Bosque, and the Sandias.

The mural is about 30% complete and is expected to be done by the end of the month.
