When Bronny James got picked 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, a big part of the NBA community felt it was due to his father, LeBron James , playing for the Lakers. It was a fantastic moment because it was the only time a father and son would play alongside each other in the NBA. The only time it happened in a major American sports league was in the MLB with Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr.

Unfortunately, Bronny's professional career has not been to a great start. James Jr. has not played well at Summer League, which has drawn criticism from the community. The former USC Trojan has taken it in stride because he feels he's in a slump . It got even worse when reigning Finals MVP Jaylen Brown was shown on the broadcast talking about him.

"I don't think Bronny is a pro," Brown said to Kysre Gondrezick and Angel Reese at courtside. "I don't think so, I think because of his name he'll be on the Lakers."

JB clarified his comments about Bronny

While he has been caught on camera talking about James Jr., the clip is a short conversation with other basketball professionals. However, most people would take the clip at face value because it has become a popular narrative during Summer League.

Thankfully, Jaylen has replied to the clip on social media, defending his case and praising the 6'3'' guard for making it to the Association with his father.

    Bronny still has immense potential

There should be no excuses regarding the youngster's performances in the Summer League, but most people know he can do more. Before James Jr. suffered cardiac arrest in July 2023, he was a top-ten prospect heading into the 2024 NBA Draft. Bronny is a talented player with the physical tools to become a reliable starting point guard.

Even Paul Pierce spoke about his belief in Bronny's development into a good NBA player. 'The Truth' is not worried about the youngster's poor form because he knows there is potential there.

"In saying that, still summer, still time to develop, so I wouldn't put too much stock on the Summer League… I seen guys average 30 in Summer League scoring and can't throw a rock in the ocean when they get to the NBA game because you got players that are bigger, stronger, faster, better," Pierce said on Undisputed.

Bronny will always get comparisons to his father, but he can break out as a talented player. James Jr. has the elite athleticism to keep up with almost every player, while he also has the defensive ability to make a difference on that end.

LeBron's oldest boy has a long road ahead, but the potential is there. All Bronny needs is the opportunity and the belief to become a regular member of any team's rotation.
