There has been a lot of discussion this summer about the New York Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He has made headlines for his decision to skip mandatory minicamp despite being at all of the voluntary offseason workouts.

A lot of chatter has been had about if the Jets are true contenders in the NFL. A lot of that will fall on the arm of Aaron Rodgers.

The franchise has essentially put all of their eggs into his basket. We saw how disastrous that could be in 2023 when he was injured on his fourth offensive play of the season.

Aaron Rodgers hurt his Achilles and didn’t get back on the field. That led to Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian starting the rest of the season and performing at a disastrously poor level.

The Jets made sure to have a better contingency plan in place this time around. They signed veteran Tyrod Taylor in free agency, who is a massive upgrade over the trio who replaced Aaron Rodgers.

Alas, if this team wants to reach the heights they believe capable, it will have to be the future Hall of Famer under center. After missing a full season and being 40 years old, there are questions about how he will perform.

NFL executives, coaches and scouts believe that he has something left to offer. Over at ESPN , Jeremy Fowler shared a ranking of the quarterbacks in the league based off their voting.

Aaron Rodgers came in at No. 8. He was as high as No. 3 on the list, while some voters didn’t have him inside the top 10. It is a drop-off from last year when he was ranked No. 4, but league personnel believes that he has still got it as a top 10 option.

“He’s probably fringe top 10 at this point, but he still has the rare ability to throw the football,” an AFC exec said . “That hasn’t gone away. I think he’s got a major opportunity to lift the Jets and show what he can still do.”

The Jets are certainly hopeful that rare ability remains. Getting work done in offseason practices in shorts is one thing; can he still get the job done in pads against live defense?

We will see soon enough. Having him back in the lineup will benefit the team greatly, but there are still some major questions that need to be answered.
