At Wednesday's meeting the Sedgwick County Commission will consider a proposed budget for next year. Commission Chair Ryan Baty tells KNSS News they're looking at a spending plan of more than $590, 000. A large portion of the county budget is supporting programs mandated by state government. Baty says "there's a lot going on in Sedgwick County," a lot of "needs," and there is "also a lot of pressure in regard to property taxes." Baty says each of the 46 departments has its own funding and spending plan.

Baty says the county may be relying too much on property taxes to generate revenue, and sales taxes could better assist in funding of non-core services.

Ryan Baty commented during his weekly appearance on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
