    Alexander County inmate death ruled a suicide: Medical examiner

    ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — An inmate whose death was initially determined to be ‘due to medical issues’ is now being determined to be a suicide, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said on Monday.

    Michael Quinto, 41, died on January 8 at the Alexander County Detention Center. His death was initially determined to have been a result of medical causes, however, a further investigation determined the death to be a suicide, NCDPS said.

    Quinto was sentenced in 2001 to two consecutive life sentences and an additional 20-plus years in a murder case out of Brunswick County. He faced two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and assault on a government officer.
