It appears that time is starting to help Rory McIlroy heal after his recent heartbreak at the U.S. Open.

If you had forgotten, McIlroy suffered one of the toughest defeats of his career at Pinehurst No. 2, bogeying two of the final three holes and missing a putt from inside three feet on the 18th, allowing Bryson DeChambeau to win his second career major.

McIlroy was the butt of a lot of jokes after the inexplicable gaff, but one of his good friends — golf legend Tiger Woods — came to his side quickly after the failure, reaching out via text and offering support.

The only problem? McIlroy never got the message.

"Full disclosure, I changed my number two days after the U.S. Open, so I didn't get it until he told me about it today," McIlroy said on Tuesday ahead of The Open Championship. "I was like, 'Oh, thanks very much.' So, I blanked Tiger Woods, which is probably not a good thing."

Tiger Woods may not be someone you want to ignore, but at least McIlroy has a valid excuse for ghosting one of the greatest athletes of our generation.

Now he will look to put that all behind him as he tries to focus on ending his majorless streak that has lasted over a decade.
