Jon Rahm admits he hasn't paid a penny of LIV Golf fines issued by DP World Tour

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm has disclosed that he has not yet settled the fines imposed on him by the DP World Tour following his switch to LIV Golf .

Rahm signed a deal worth a reported $600 million with the Saudi-backed series for the 2024 season in December last year, joining an array of DP World Tour professionals who were hit with penalties and suspensions for participating in 'contradictory' LIV events.

Numerous LIV players, including Rahm, opted not to retire from the erstwhile European Tour in light of these sanctions, with Rahm holding on hope of participating in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black next year.

Rahm also needs to clear up any remaining fines with the Tour to be deemed eligible but it's unclear how the two-time major victor is faring now. When questioned about his Ryder Cup eligibility ahead of the forthcoming Open Championship, Rahm retorted: "We're still in conversations with the Tour."

"I haven't been able to play any Tour events, so yeah, we're going to have to sort it out... I haven't paid [fines] yet, but again, I just don't know when I'm going to play."

Despite his shift to LIV, Rahm is keen to participate in the Spanish Open this year, however his wife Kelley's expected labour date about the time of the game puts this into doubt, reports the Mirror US .

He said: "I want to tee it up hopefully at the Spanish Open. At this point, I'm so still waiting on what might happen with my wife and daughter that I don't know if I'll be able to play or not. So my fall is still a little bit of a question mark when it comes to playing golf."

Rahm added: "I just don't know when I'm going to play. It could very well be a chance because it hasn't been the easiest pregnancy, that I just simply don't have the chance to tee off. My mind is not thinking on that right now."

The exact amount Rahm owes in sanctions to the Tour remains unclear, but it's expected to be substantial.

His former Ryder Cup teammate and fellow LIV star Lee Westwood has disclosed that he owes more than $1 million in fines to the DP World Tour, although he has not yet settled his dues. Sergio Garcia racked up a similar amount, with his fines reaching $906,000, an amount he tried to settle last year in an effort to secure a spot on the 2023 Ryder Cup team.

Both Rahm and the DP World Tour are undoubtedly eager to reach a resolution, given his significant contribution to Team Europe's recent successes. Last year, the Spaniard was pivotal in his continent's triumph over Team USA in Italy, delivering an unbeaten performance at Marco Simone and amassing three points from his four matches.
