SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Sullivan County Fair is underway with 4-H exhibits, competitions, entertainment and much more.

The Sullivan County 4-H Fair kicked off back on July 13 with tons of animals to see. 10-year 4-H member Carol Witt says the tradition has kept families coming back to see the youth showcase their animals for generations while teaching valuable skills to the community.

“I am obviously a 10-year 4-H member but I’ve been coming here for longer than that, as I have older siblings who I would follow around and all the memories that this fair has taught me as well as the life skills and the life lessons,” Witt said. “Through the static projects or the animals, it really is such a teaching opportunity and the best week in the summer all in one.”

An event that gives so much to the community requires all hands on deck. Purdue Extension educator Kevin Cross says the volunteers and community support make the operation possible.

“Our focus here is the kids,” Cross said. “Our focus here is learning, our focus is making the best better, and we would not be able to do that without the support of our insane number of volunteers and the support of our community. This is a big deal in Sullivan County and the county really comes together to make it possible and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of our community.”

With several other fairs happening at the same time, the Sullivan County Fair is unique in its own way. The fair is set to continue through July 20 with multiple events each day.
