Patrick Beverley's Surprising Announcement On Future Had One Obvious Flaw

    By Jack Winter,

Veteran on-court agitator Patrick Beverley is set to continue his playing career overseas. While announcing his departure from the NBA, though, the 36-year-old made one major mistake: The specific location of his new team.

Beverley revealed through his podcast's Twitter account on Tuesday that he'll play next season with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC after the Israeli powerhouse gave him "everything" he wanted in contract negotiations. The only problem? Beverley, evidently, thinks he's taking his talents to Europe rather than the Middle East.

"BREAKING: @patbev21 is headed to Europe," the PatBev Pod handle announced on Twitter. "'They gave me everything I asked for… I couldn’t refuse,' Says PatBev. He plans to sign with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC."

Beverley finished 2023-24 with the Milwaukee Bucks after arriving in a trade-deadline deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The defensive specialist averaged six points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game off the bench for Milwaukee, regularly guarding the opposition's top perimeter player.

While his defection to Israel comes as a surprise, Beverley is intimately familiar with the international—well, at least European— game. After going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2008, he cut his professional teeth playing in Ukraine, Greece and Russia before latching on with the Houston Rockets in 2013.

Hapoel is the second-most successful team in the Israeli Premier League, boasting five national championships. Expect Beverley to be a fixture for The Reds in the backcourt this season, exploring his offensive exploits the way he's never had the chance in the NBA.
