OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A man is dead after drowning at Lake Hartwell on Tuesday morning.

According to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office, it happened around 8:28 a.m., when first responders were sent to the Seneca River Basin at the lake, near the Harts Cove Apartment Complex.

The 53-year-old was reportedly trying to swim across a cove when he went under. The man was recovered by emergency divers from waters ranging from 12 to 15 feet deep.

EMS brought the man to Oconee Memorial Hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, where he died at around 9:50 a.m.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Scott Lamar Price or Walhalla.

An autopsy for Price is scheduled for Wednesday, with his cause and manner of death still under investigation.
