    UPDATE: July 17 at 9:30 a.m.
On Tuesday afternoon, near the Boonesborough Beach area of the Kentucky River, search and rescue crews searched for a male juvenile who had gone underwater and did not resurface.

First on the scene was the White Hall Volunteer Fire Department.

"When we arrived on scene, we made contact with witnesses and people who were with him on the beach to gather further information," said Jackson Roeder, White Hall Fire Captain.

Officials say the juvenile walked into the water from the beach.

"It is open to the public to be down there, but there is no swimming posted," said Roeder.

Crews have been in the water using sonar for several hours.

"Underwater robots in the water using cameras to try to locate anything further and we're also doing searches along the bank on each side to gather further information to see what we can find," said Roeder.

LEX 18 spoke to someone who lives near the beach.

"I like to see them clean it up, get some roping, where you can't get next to the spillway because when the water's rolling, that spillway will suck you in," said Bruce Harrison. "I've seen them throw logs up five feet in the air; beyond that, it's really dangerous."
