Mendocino County investigators on Tuesday released the name of the Sonoma County man who was fatally shot last week during an argument east of Point Arena.

Kevin Taeuffer, 54, of Annapolis, was pronounced dead Thursday at a home in the 38500 Block Eureka Hill Road, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to identify the exact cause of death.

Point Arena resident Pan Jasper Brady, 47, was arrested last week on suspicion of murder and using a gun in a death or injury.

Mendocino County jail records show he was released Saturday after posting $500,000 bail. As of Tuesday, prosecutors had yet to file official charges in the case, according to court records.

Investigators say the men argued and at some point during the confrontation, they believe, Brady retrieved a handgun and shot Taeuffer.

The suspect called authorities and put the gun away while waiting for them to arrive, officials said.

Mendocino County sheriff’s deputies and California State Parks peace officers responded.

Taeuffer was pronounced dead and Brady was arrested at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
