Slice of Humboldt Pie celebrates their grand reopening

Slice of Humboldt Pie held their grand reopening Tuesday July 16.

“Today is our grand opening!” Amber Saba, co-owner of Slice of Humboldt Pie, said. “We opened at 10 a.m. this morning and we’re just inviting everyone down to check out the new location.”

After ending their lease in the building they shared with The Local Cider Bar, Slice of Humboldt Pie has relocated.

“We’ve moved to 660 K Street, and this is a pretty casual, informal location, but we wanted to give a full offering,” Saba said. “So now we have espresso, breakfast, a patio for dogs. Just a real spot for anyone to come and hang out in the community and enjoy some good pie.”

Locals had mixed reactions to the news of the pie business moving—but with change comes opportunity.

“Like the name of the other building—Bittersweet—It was a little bittersweet to move out, you know, That was our baby,” Saba said. “We built that together. It’s something that we know and love. We’ve watched so many people in our community grow up, share their memories there, and so we are just excited to do that same thing in this building and build new memories and have more people come in and continue that here.”

Saba spoke about the pros of the new location.

“This has been a huge deal. And this is our 10th anniversary that Slice of Humboldt Pie has been open. So to take what we knew and shake it up a little bit and move down here has been a little stressful, but very exciting. It’s given our staff a bigger kitchen to work in, a bigger outdoor area for everyone else. It’s really exciting to get this place; to have our own destiny. We don’t share the building, so we get to kind of do a little more things that we wanted to.”

While the future is bright, the past is not forgotten.

“This is a sign from our other building off the front,” Saba said, pointing to the Slice of Humboldt Pie sign behind her. “And it just made sense to kind of carry that on and put it here in the new location and have that one little thing that we all you know, get used to seeing. And we love that.”

The support from the community has made this reopening something special to be a part of.

“People have come out. I mean, they’ve been peeking in the windows all day long and stuff, and we had a line right when we opened and an impromptu ribbon cutting. The community has really supported us and it feels really good,” Saba said. “It’s giving us that motivation to to get after it and get this done. And it’s been really I’m very thankful.”

Saba told Redwood News about her role at the restaurant and in the community.

“This is my community, my family. Our kids were raised here. And this is major to be a part of this community and own this business. We not only own it, but we work it. We’re here every day and it’s just exciting to be a part of that.”
