‘Memories will be made’: Henrico County’s Taylor Farm Park officially opens

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County cut the ribbon on the long-awaited Taylor Farm Park on Tuesday.

The ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 16, marking the start of a nearly week-long celebration.

“It’s the first [park] that we’ve built in the eastern part of the county in 40 years,” said Henrico County Board of Supervisors Chairman Tyrone Nelson.

The park has been under construction since 2023, but it was bought from the Taylor family in 2016. Sallie Cochram, great-granddaughter of Taylor Farm’s original owner, said her family has owned the property since the 1850s.

“All the memories I [have] here [are] wonderful,” she said. “But the thought of the memories that people who come to this park [will make], now and for the generations to come — that’s even better.”

Nelson agreed with Cochram’s sentiment on what this place stood for.

“Memories will be made,” he told 8News.

With her family’s nearly 100 acres of land, Henrico County was able to build a park with attractions the area had never seen before — a splash park, playground, zip lines, a memorial, a skatepark, a BMX course and more.

“And if wheels aren’t your thing, you can enjoy a mile-long asphalt trail,” Nelson said.

A schedule of events has been released to continue the opening celebration through Friday.
