According to the Echo , the Reds may wait until later in the window to conduct any business in order to give new head coach Arne Slot time to assess his squad. He may well need that, with a new priority emerging.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the most recent transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds, including the latest on Alexander-Arnold, as well as news of a bid being accepted for Leny Yoro.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Real Madrid has been in talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold over a potential move, according to Bild . The Liverpool vice-captain is claimed to be interested in the Spanish giant’s approach.
Alexander-Arnold has just one year remaining on his current deal at Anfield . He’s not set to meet back up with his teammates until later in the summer, with the 25-year-old taking a break following his exploits with England at Euro 2024.
Liverpool.com says: No matter how much truth there is in Alexander-Arnold being interested in a move to Real Madrid, Liverpool needs to act quickly. It shouldn’t have let one of its biggest players get this far without a new contract in the first place.
That has to be Arne Slot and Richard Hughes’ biggest priority now. If transfers are taking a back seat while the new head coach assesses his current squad, then he needs his most important players tied down.
Leny Yoro (Lille)
Liverpool looks to have given up on its interest in Leny Yoro this summer, with The Athletic reporting that the Reds have ‘backed off’ after accepting the teenager wants a move to Real Madrid. Manchester United though remains in the race.
L’Equipe and FootMercato have both reported that Yoro is in talks with the Old Trafford club after their $55m (£42m/€50m) bid was accepted by Lille.
Liverpool.com says: We’ve already seen with Kylian Mbappe that players now are more than happy to let their contracts run down if they can get a move to Real Madrid. If Liverpool has ended its pursuit, it will need to hope that it is the case.
It would not be a good look for the Reds if United end up signing Yoro now. Liverpool should have a clear advantage over its rival with Champions League football, and letting that slip would not go down well among fans.
