Yesterday’s rain and cloud cover helped reduce afternoon temperatures for a big portion of Missouri while Arkansas was hot and muggy. The rain from yesterday left behind a boundary that is draped near the state line between Missouri and Arkansas this morning. The southward extent of this boundary has shifted the heaviest rainfall zone southward into northern Arkansas this morning. Rain chances are now less likely north of I-44 thanks to this southward placement of that boundary.

Temperatures are still expected to be cool today in the low to mid-80s. Winds will be light and generally be from the north this afternoon. Rain today will be heaviest along and south of I-44, especially across northern Arkansas. A flood watch is in effect for these areas. 1-3″ of locally heavy rain is possible.

The cold front itself doesn’t pass through until this afternoon. Behind the front tonight, temperatures will drop to the mid-60s.

Rain is most likely tonight across far southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Thursday will see a weak piece of energy go through Arkansas providing additional chances for rain through the morning once again mainly across northern Arkansas.

A mild stretch of July weather will make for ideal weather to get outdoors Thursday through Saturday. Lows and highs will run 5 to 10° below normal with comfortable humidity levels.

The pattern will take a turn for the cloudier and wetter by Sunday as a storm dives into the middle of the country. The storm will boost rain chances and keep temperatures mild.

In fact, it looks like the trough in the middle of the country will persist. This may keep rain chances around next week, but it will certainly keep temperatures milder than normal as we kick off the Ozark Empire Fair.
