(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has announced that the state’s Disaster Recovery Temporary Housing Program is now open for applications following approval from FEMA. The program aims to provide temporary housing, including recreational vehicles and travel trailers, for up to six months at no cost to Iowans whose homes were severely damaged, destroyed, or deemed uninhabitable in counties under a federal disaster declaration. As of now, the eligible counties are Adair, Adams, Buena Vista, Cedar, Clay, Emmet, Jasper, Lyon, Montgomery, Obrien, Plymouth, Polk, Sioux, and Story. Additional counties may become eligible as the recovery process and damage assessments continue.

To be eligible for the program, residents from qualifying counties must first apply for FEMA disaster assistance. They must also have filed a claim with their insurance company and received final approval or denial of their claim. FEMA Individual Assistance documentation, including the case number, is required for the application process.

Applications for the Disaster Recovery Temporary Housing Program are now open at DisasterRecovery.iowa.gov. A call center will also be open daily, including weekends, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. TTY and translation services are available. For more information and to apply, visit Iowa.gov, call (608) 480-8808 or toll-free at (833) 307 6030, or visit DisasterRecovery.iowa.gov.
