A section of Forest Road 199 will be closed from Morgan Creek Bridge south for about one quarter mile south from July 15 until around Aug. 12.

Motorists can access Morgan Falls and St. Peter’s Dome from the north via Ashland/Bayfield Road FR 199.

“The section of road will be closed so that important construction can take place to enhance the visitor experience in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest,” said USDA Forest Service Technical Services Staff Officer Mark Beuning. “During the time that a section of FR 199 is closed, be sure to plan ahead and allow for extra time to navigate your route. Bring a map with you, even if you have GPS.”

Exemptions to the prohibited motorized activity include any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty and persons with a special use authorization or other USDA Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of the closure.

Maps are available online for visitors to reference to identify alternative routes. The maps are located at: www.fs.usda.gov/main/cnnf/maps-pubs.
