The 2024 MLB Draft is in the books.

The state of Massachusetts will look back on it rather fondly.

Seven Bay State natives were selected in the 20-round event that spanned the past three days. Many of whom are pitchers, three hailing from the South Shore.

The Boston Red Sox made the biggest local splash with the selection of 21-year-old BC High alum Shea Sprague in the 13th round amidst the team's focus of acquiring young pitching talent.

Below is a round-up of all of the local drafted prospects, and even a few outsiders with Mass. ties.

    Jonathan Santucci, Leominster

Drafted: Round 2, Pick 37 to the New York Mets

Left-handed pitcher from Duke was named to the All-ACC First Team after owning a 3.31 ERA as the Blue Devils' ace. Santucci held opposing batters to a .188 batting average in a career-high 58 innings of work on the season (6-1 record). He attended Phillips Academy in Andover and was the second-ranked prospect in the state when he graduated in 2022.

    Jack Penney, Wakefield

Drafted: Round 5, Pick 147 to the Detroit Tigers

The junior shortstop from Notre Dame hit .269 with 9 home runs and 37 RBIs in 52 games this spring. He hit for a .405 average his senior year at Phillips Academy in Andover in 2021.

    Dennis Colleran, North Attleboro

Drafted: Round 7, Pick 197 to the Kansas City Royals

The 6-foot-3 junior pitcher from Northeastern and North Attleboro High made 20 appearances for the Huskies this spring. He had a 7.97 ERA, but put across a scoreless line in nine of his last 15 appearances. In high school, Colleran was the 2021 Hockomock League MVP after North Attleboro won the league title.

    John West, Shrewsbury

Drafted: Round 12, Pick 374 to the Arizona Diamondbacks

West, a senior right-hander from Boston College, pitched a career-high 78 innings of work in 14 starts this spring, earning a 5.42 ERA. In high school, he was a two-time Worcester Telegram All-Scholastic pick in baseball and basketball.

    Shea Sprague, Hanover

Drafted: Round 13, Pick 378 to the Boston Red Sox

Sprague, a junior left-hander at the University of North Carolina, made 15 starts for the Tar Heels this spring and earned All-ACC Second Team honors with a 3-2 record and 4.25 ERA. He was a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic as a senior at BC High in 2021 when he owned a 1.13 ERA.

    Tanner Smith, Duxbury

Drafted: Round 15, Pick 450 to the San Diego Padres

The 6-foot-6 right-hander from Harvard via Milton Academy had an 8.49 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 2-2 record with one save, 29 strikeouts over 23⅓ innings this spring. He won a state championship in hockey as an underclassmen at Duxbury High in 2019.

Opposing batters hit for a .132 average against him and he had a 4.33 ERA. A 2020 Silver Lake grad, he was a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic in basketball and baseball.
