SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A man from Springfield has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a drug conspiracy involving a known street gang.

Prosecutors said Christopher Wallace, 32, was indicted in December of 2020 for his role the drug conspiracy. He was arrested two years later and he pleaded guilty in February of this year. He’s been in custody since then.

During Wallace’s sentencing hearing, Judge Sue Myerscough found that Wallace and his conspiracy were responsible for distributing large amounts of controlled substances in the Springfield area; he was directly responsible for 10 kilograms, or 22 pounds, of cocaine.

The most serious charge Wallace was convicted of was conspiracy to distribute cocaine. That crime carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and parole for life.

The case against Wallace was part of an investigation into the Springfield-based Boss Playas street gang. The DEA, FBI, Illinois State Police and Springfield Police Department were all involved.
