Three Pensacola residents are in serious condition Wednesday after a car driven by a 60-year-old man hopped the median on Davis Highway in an attempt to get to Santa Rosa County, causing a three-car collision.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the area where Scenic Highway meets Davis Highway just before the Escambia River Bridge shortly after 8 a.m. They determined the man "failed to operate with in the designated northbound lanes," entering wrong-way traffic as he hurdled over the concrete median.

"The front left corner portion of Vehicle 1 collided with the front left corner portion of Vehicle 2," an FHP release said. "The collision caused Vehicle 2 to enter the inside southbound lane. Subsequent to this action, the front left corner portion of Vehicle 3 collided with the rear right corner portion of Vehicle 2."

The 60-year-old man who initiated the crash remains in critical condition, while the drivers of the two other vehicles, a 46-year-old man and 63-year-old woman, are both in serious condition, according to FHP.
