Football is almost back for the New York Jets

Although the entire team is set to report to training camp until July 23rd, a select group of players will get a head start as rookies and quarterbacks will be showing up to the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey tomorrow July 18th.

The early reporting date allows for physical examinations, conditioning tests, closed practices, and team meetings to get new faces on the Jets acclimated ahead of a long summer.

It's important to point out that quarterbacks are permitted to report to camp at the same time as rookies but it's up to the team's discretion on requiring it. Additionally, select injured players are allowed to show up as well.

The date will mark the beginning of a long summer and the prelude to a three-game preseason that will prove highly important for a Jets team with a lot of roster spots up for the taking.

It will also prove invaluable time for players rookie third-round draft pick Malachi Corley to get a head start on developing chemistry with Aaron Rodgers as he tries to win the starting slot receiver role on the Jets offense. Corley has already been doing everything he can to garner Rodgers’ favor including living in his guest house.

Corley is very highly thought of in the Jets front office mainly for his ability to gain yards after the catch. The proclaimed “YAC King” could take a lot of pressure off the Jets offense to push the ball down the field with their soon-to-be 41-year-old quarterback in order to get big plays. He could have an instant impact on the team even if he doesn’t earn the starting spot.

Additionally, the Jets will hold three joint practices prior to their preseason showdowns. On August 8th, they'll hold their first joint session against the Washington Commanders in Florham Park. The following week, the Jets will travel to the Carolina Panthers for joint practices beginning August 15 th prior to their preseason matchup on the 17th. Finally, they will play host to the New York Giants beginning August 21 st again in Florham Park.

They're one of 30 teams in the league to have joint practices scheduled as coaching staffs around the league put more emphasis on these over preseason games because of a more controlled environment. They're also one of ten teams to have multiple joint practices this year and one of two (Miami Dolphins) to schedule three.

The long road to ending a 13-year playoff drought begins tomorrow for the New York Jets and the pressure is on. It will likely be the last chance for Robert Saleh to prove he can be an NFL head coach if he doesn’t at least make the playoffs. The 2024 journey for the Jets starts tomorrow.
