More evacuations ordered for 3,076-acre Cougar Creek Fire in Asotin County

ASOTIN COUNTY, Wash. - More evacuations have been ordered for the 842-acre Cougar Creek Fire in Asotin County.

According to the Asotin County Sheriff's Office, Level 3 (Go Now) evacuations are in place from the mouth of Cottonwood Creek North to Forest Road 4304 west to the county line.

Level 2 (Be Set) evacuations have been issued south of the Grande Ronde from Highway 129 and the state line west. North from Boggan's to the intersection of W Mountain Road and Forest Road 4304.

Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuations are in place from the intersection of Mill Road and Highway 129 west to the county line, south to Forest Road 4304, and from the intersection of W Mountain Road and Forest Service Road 4304 east to Highway 129 and south to the county line.

As of 8:30 p.m. on July 17, the fire has burned 3,076 acres with no containment.

The American Red Cross announced it will open an emergency evacuation shelter. The shelter is located at the Asotin County Fairgrounds and will have food, cots, and other  necessities.

Washington Department of Natural Resources said a new incident management team will be put in place Wednesday which will bring significantly more resources to the fire.

The Asotin County Sheriff's Office asked boaters to stay out of the way on the Snake River while firefighting air crafts are refilling water supplies.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
