    State Rep. Rigby announces infrastructure award for Windber

    HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Pennsylvania State Representative Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) announced a $14 million award to the Windber Area Authority to aid in improving the wastewater treatment process.

    The money, which is divided into a $6 million grant and an $8.5 million loan from PENNVEST, will be diverted to building a new Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion System. The new project will include:

    • Two reactor basins
    • Biofilter basin with scrubber
    • Equipment building with pumps
    • Blowers
    • Drum Thickener

    Along with the new building, additional piping and site work will be added onto the existing wastewater treatment plant.

    “Give credit to the members of the authority for expressing a need in their community,” Rigby said. “I was more than happy to go to bat for them in presenting this to the PENNVEST board of directors for consideration, and happy to see the request was approved.”
