It's giving tough and edgy... not. Remember those harrowing bro-country days of 2014 where "Bottoms Up" got forced down our throats three times an hour on country radio? Admittedly, that's where I first discovered that I really liked country music, but my goodness am I glad that my evolution as a music fan didn't end there. Well, one of the "trucks and tailgates and beer and Daisy Dukes" kings just announced a new album coming out on September 13th and the album cover itself speaks volumes for what we can expect from the project. Brantley Gilbert, the artist known for songs like "The Weekend" and
"Rolex On A Redneck" , is releasing his 7th career album in the fall. I'm not going to pretend I've been an avid fan over the past few years, in fact I don't remember listening to a single song of his, but one look at this album cover confirmed that I've been making the correct decision. Brantley decided to go shirtless (except for the rings, chain-link bracelet, and necklaces) while smoking a blunt to drive home the fact that he loves ink. It's fitting since the album is titled Tattoos but if it's possible to look more like a tool I don't want to know how. https://www.instagram.com/p/C9htqZfAwQ6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Let me make it clear that I have nothing against tattoos, my own wife has plenty and Koe Wetzel is one of my favorite artists. I'm also not against Brantley as a person. He seems like a good dude, family man, and we probably have a lot in common, but you just can't put out an album cover like this and not expect to hear about it. I guess he's just leaning into his industry persona of the "bad boy" but dude, you're almost 40 and married, why are you using a thirst trap for the album cover? Mainstream country music has been steadily improving for years but this proves there's still lots of room to grow. Here's "Tattoos" if you care to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTi8y39HBQI Whoops, I accidentally linked a good song there... Here's Brantley's latest release, "Me And My House," featuring Struggle Jennings and Demun Jones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ-THAebeMo
