NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Parts of Hampshire Country are without power Wednesday afternoon.

Thankfully the storms we saw last night didn’t cause too many power outages, but it’s still super hot and humid outside today and it could be a matter of life and death to not get overheated.

Experts say to take heat seriously because it can sicken and kill, especially in the hot and humid air we’ve experienced as of late. The elderly and people who don’t have access to air conditioning are especially vulnerable, but everyone is at risk.

22News spoke to April Woodard from Shutesbury who told us her advice for living without AC, “I think to stay safe know your limits when you’re starting to see signs that you’re getting overheated make sure that you seek out the cooling stations, and if you don’t have transportation get in touch with somebody who does call a neighbor.”

Experts also emphasize the need not just to cool off in hot weather but also to drink plenty of liquid, it’s always important to hydrate.

Other advice from experts are to wear light and airy clothing, take a cool shower, cover your head, and always embrace the shade.
