Inmate convicted in Fresno County dies on death row

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man who was sentenced to death for first-degree murder has died in custody. Officials say Glenn W. Jennings was released from prison three separate times after an initial conviction of first-degree robbery in Fresno County.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the 71-year-old passed away at the California Medical Facility early Wednesday morning after being found unresponsive in his cell during a security check. The Solano County Coroner determined the cause of death to be natural.

Jennings received his first conviction in 1977 after he committed a first-degree robbery in Fresno County. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole but was released three years later under parole supervision.

According to officials, Jennings returned to prison in 1982 after being convicted of robbery with enhancements of using a firearm. He served 18 years of his 35-year sentence before being released again to parole supervision in 2001.

Officials say Jennings was returned from parole on June 4, 2003, and released to parole supervision on Feb. 24, 2004, after serving his full sentence as defined by law.

In November 2010, he faced his final conviction and was sentenced to death for first-degree murder.
