The famous, fun and dramatic heart rate challenge finally came to Love Island USA season six.
The highly-anticipated challenge appeared on July 15 episode of Love Island USA and it did not disappoint with the thrills, laughs and gasps. From Miguel thrusting his hand into the fire and placing it on Leah's neck to Daniela kissing Kordell , the challenge had fans reacting in so many different ways.
For the heart rate challenge, the goal is to make the other group's heart rate rise. In order to help set that in motion, the contestants wear sexy costumes and perform a little number to wow their opponents. The challenge is divided by gender so the men and women are competing to see which group's heartbeat will increase the most. So one person from each team puts on a show for the whole opposing team. The men were declared the winner on the hit Peacock dating show for this season because of Kordell, who made the most women's heart race as a sultry, silly nerd.

Carsten " Bergie " Bergersen who was a contestant on season five of Love Island, also participated in the heart rate challenge in his season. He spoke to The Mirror and provided insight to what goes on behind the scenes of the famous game.
Fans were curious if the contestants picked their outfits for the challenge. Bergie who wore an American-themed outfit for his round of the game, shared it wasn't his idea.
"It was picked out I was supposed to be coming with the American flag, American speedo, that was picked out for me," Bergie said. "I was really scared to go into the speedo that was the most skin I’ve ever shown."
While the cast members may not be able to pick their own outfits, they do get to plan their routine and they have time to do it. He shared that on Love Island USA, they were given "plenty of time" like "three hours" before it was their turn to go out there. But the time given helped Bergie to not feel "nervous" since he had his all "planned out" from what person he was going to to what he was going to do.
"I knew exactly what I was going to do for however long I had been out there…so I wasn’t nervous about what I was going to do because I knew it, I had my plan," the former Traitors contestant said.
"And when you have something planned out you’re not too nervous about it. But if I was to go out there and free ball it, I would definitely be all over the place,” he elaborated.
He also addressed how heart rates going up for people you’re not in a couple with, does not mean what fans may think it means. He explained that anything can make your heart race and it is not necessarily due to the person being hot or doing something hot.
"It really doesn’t matter whose heart rate goes up because it can go up for different reasons," the 24 year old said. "It can be because you were scared it could be because you were more active during one than the other one because they were on top a bit more…it’s just blood flow."
"So I think that’s like the big thing people sometimes misconstrue, I think more people at home misconstrued it more than people in the villa because we’re so self aware about it sitting there," Bergie continued. "We’re like, ‘our heart rate can go up if we just stand up it doesn’t matter who’s the girl walking out.'"
