    Richmond Police Officer Mervin Mayo performed on NBC's "America's Got Talent" on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

    About the "Gospel Cop"

    Mayo is called the "Gospel Cop" because he always sings at work and church. He is a Police Officer for the City of Richmond and a resource officer in the Richmond Public School system for at-risk students.

    Mervin Mayo's performance

    The officer wowed the host, judges, and audience with his performance of "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran while his wife Michelle watched and smiled at him from the sideline. Mayo often glanced in her direction as he played the keyboard and sang the love song.

    After the romantic song ended, Michelle Mayo was called to the stage to be with her husband. She was introduced as an employee of the Richmond Public Schools system, where her husband works.

    Judges' remarks and decisions

    Mayo's performance moved all four judges. They gave him positive remarks and voted for him to advance to the next round.
