Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1200 block of North 67th Ave. West near Newton. While enroute crews received word that there were flames in the basement, prompting a second alarm to call in additional crews.

According to the Newton Fire Department, the fire was contained to the basement, but caused extensive smoke damage throughout the home. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

    No injuries were reported.
